A phantom is a whole earlier crystal preserved inside a later one — growth stopped, chlorite or another mineral settled on the faces, then growth continued around it. In crystal tradition it is the stone of long projects: the shape of the earlier attempt is still visible inside the finished thing. No two are alike, because no two growth interruptions are.
