What the tradition reads it as
Greek drinking cups were cut from amethyst on the belief that a clear head could be built into the vessel — the name itself means "not drunken." Crystal tradition kept the idea but softened it into lowering the volume rather than silencing anything.
When people wear it
Kept on the night table more often than the wrist: for the hours when your thoughts keep talking after you have stopped.
What you are actually holding
Quartz coloured violet by trace iron and natural irradiation. Colour runs in zones, so one bead can be deep at one end and nearly clear at the other — that is growth banding, not inconsistent grading.
How to look after it
Keep it out of long direct sun; violet quartz is the classic fader. Warm water and a soft cloth are enough. No ultrasonic cleaners.
